How to Prepare for Your First House Cleaning

By JD’s Gleam Team · Published October 3, 2026

You do not need to clean the house before a cleaning appointment. The useful preparation is making the booked areas accessible and sharing the details that affect the work. A little planning helps JD’s Gleam Team focus on the cleaning you selected.

First, check that the service matches your home

Standard Cleaning is for routine upkeep in a maintained home. Deep Cleaning adds detail for buildup, including baseboards, doors and frames, and bathroom tile and grout scrubbing. Move-In/Out Cleaning adds empty cabinets, drawers and other transition areas. All three include routine shower and bathtub surface cleaning; inside oven and refrigerator cleaning are optional paid add-ons.

Use our Standard, Deep and Move-In/Out comparison before booking. If you are unsure about the condition, describe the buildup and the areas that matter to you instead of selecting only by price.

The preparation checklist

  1. Clear loose belongings. Pick up clothing, toys, paperwork and personal items from floors and the surfaces you want reached. The goal is access, not pre-cleaning.
  2. Protect personal and fragile items. Put away valuables, documents and delicate belongings. Point out fragile finishes or items that should not be moved.
  3. Arrange entry. Confirm the approved entry method, parking and any building restrictions. Share access details privately with the booking team.
  4. Plan for pets. Tell us about pets and arrange a comfortable, secure area that allows the booked spaces to be cleaned.
  5. Set out clean sheets if needed. Standard and Deep include making beds or changing sheets when clean sheets are provided. Laundry is not implied by a sheet-change request.
  6. Share product requirements. JD’s Gleam Team brings supplies and equipment for the scheduled service. Discuss preferred products, care instructions and sensitive surfaces ahead of the visit.
  7. List your priorities. Identify a few areas that need attention. Extra requests still need to fit the selected checklist or be agreed separately.

If you booked appliance interiors or a move-out clean

Oven and refrigerator interiors are optional extras, so select them explicitly. For refrigerator cleaning, remove food and personal items and ask about any other preparation. For Move-In/Out Cleaning, empty the cabinets, drawers, shelves and closets you want cleaned, and tell us which furniture or boxes will remain.

Move-related preparation has its own move-out checklist and handoff guide. Use that guide if your appointment is part of a property transition.

What to confirm before the appointment

Check the home-size band, selected service and add-ons in your booking summary. The current price guide explains the base rates and first-visit versus recurring pricing. If the home’s condition or required tasks have changed, contact us before the visit.

After the clean

Review the booked areas and raise any service concern promptly. Eligible re-clean requests must be reported within 24 hours of service completion under our policy. Our cleaning FAQs explain the terms. Once your home is at a maintenance level, recurring Standard Cleaning can help you keep it there.
